Driving Empowerment: Afriex and Tech Herfrica Collaborate to Empower Women Traders in Gishiri Community through Digital Skills and Smartphones
On June 11, 2023, the Tech Herfrica team, with the generous support and sponsorship of Afriex, embarked on a mission to empower and equip female traders in the vibrant community of Gishiri. This initiative, known as EquipHer, aimed to provide these women with smartphones, essential digital skills, and access to new opportunities. The impact of this program was truly transformative, as these women went from smartphone deprivation to empowered individuals with thriving businesses and improved financial well-being.
During the training session, the participants were guided through a comprehensive journey that revealed the vast possibilities of their smartphones. The facilitators ensured that the women felt comfortable and confident in navigating their devices, unlocking the full potential of the digital tools at their fingertips. The training covered crucial aspects such as device setup, SIM card insertion, data subscription activation, account creation on popular platforms, app downloading, contact management, WhatsApp messaging, and WhatsApp status updates.
The impact recorded from this initiative was significant:
Smartphone Empowerment: Prior to the training, these women did not own smartphones, limiting their access to the digital world. Through the program, they were equipped with their own devices, opening up a realm of possibilities and opportunities.
Digital Skills Proficiency: Initially unfamiliar with smartphones, the women underwent a transformative journey during the training. They gained essential digital skills and technical know-how, empowering them to navigate their devices with confidence and take full advantage of their capabilities.
Unleashing E-commerce Potential: Before the training, the women had not explored e-commerce to augment their business income. Following the program, they gained the knowledge and expertise to leverage e-commerce platforms, expanding their customer base and boosting their earnings.
Access to Financial Services: The training shed light on vital financial services such as loans, credits, micro pension plans, and health insurance. With this knowledge, the women now have the ability to access these services, secure their financial future, and protect their income.
Strengthened Customer Connections: Embracing smartphones allowed the women to connect more effectively with their customers. Through platforms like WhatsApp, they gained the skills to engage with customers, share updates, and build stronger relationships, resulting in increased customer loyalty.
The recorded impact showcases a remarkable transformation for these women, empowering them with smartphones, digital skills, e-commerce capabilities, access to financial services, and strengthened customer connections. This partnership between Tech Herfrica and Afriex has demonstrated the positive outcomes of empowering women with digital tools and knowledge, paving the way for sustainable growth and economic empowerment in these communities
